Artist Statement/Bio

Karen Baugh

Karen lives in Rescue, CA, a small town in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains, with her husband of 41 years Jerry and Emmy Cat.  In her studio she spends her time painting with watercolor and drawing in various mediums.

I love to paint portraits.  My inspiration comes from my photographs where I try to capture my subjects in a natural "slice of life moment" that expresses a part of their personality.  I also paint still life, floral, landscape, seascape, animals and objects such as motorcycles.  It is in painting these varied subject matters that I get to paint complex textures, forms and patterns with a focus on light and shadow.  I am continually striving to improve in all areas of my art and I am especially focused on making my paintings as vibrant as possible.

I have studied art at several local colleges and I am very fortunate to be able to study with and be mentored by the gifted and extremely talented artist Jeannie Vodden, of Jackson, CA.  JeannieVodden.com
